24 Weeks

We made it to another milestone! 24 weeks is a huge deal, as it marks viability. Before 24 weeks, if the boys were born then there wouldn't be much chance of survival, and most hospitals won't medically intervene. However, after 24 weeks they have a decent chance of survival (although with a lot of medical intervention and a very long stay in the NICU).

This is me yesterday:

My belly has changed in shape over the past two weeks. It feels a lot lower and a bit wider, which is a relief as it was getting very uncomfortable the higher the boys were sitting. Both of their heads are still down, so walking for more than a few minutes isn't quite happening!

The boys are getting more and more active. I was reading a book the other day and the book kept moving every time they kicked! We had a scan yesterday and it was the first time I was feeling them moving and watching them move on the screen at the same time! The sonographer commented on how active they are...oh yes, you have no idea!!

So, on to the scan results...

My cervix hasn't really changed since the 22 week scan. It's measuring 3.9cm and is still closed with no signs of funnelling. Just what we wanted to hear...My TAC is doing it's job! Originally the plan was to stop the cervical scans at 22 weeks, and not have another scan until 28 weeks (purely to check the growth of the boys). But we decided we couldn't go 6 weeks without knowing how things were looking. We'd rather be proactive if something had changed, rather than reactive once it was too late. When we saw our OB at 23 weeks, instead of talking to us about what he is planning, he instead now asks "So when's your next scan?". Haha. He knows me too well. So, basically we're sticking with fortnightly scans until 28 weeks.

The boys both looked great. The pleural effusion in Twin 1 and the pericardial effusion in Twin 2 have both disappeared! They're both still measuring right on track and are really starting to look like babies. We had the nice sonographer we had at 15 weeks, so again got tons of photos! She seems to really enjoy watching the boys interacting and doesn't rush past the cuteness, just to get measurements, etc! When I rang to make my next two appointments, I made sure we weren't seeing the sonographer from the 22 week scan. Really wasn't a fan!

Twin 1 was being a real show off, so we got some wonderful photos of him. He now weighs 672 grams.




Twin 2 was being a little more elusive. He now weighs 667 grams. The hand in the first photo actually belongs to Twin 1...always trying to get in the shot!
